Finderr Bags First Place at 2019 Imagine Cup EMEA Regional Finals.
And will be proceeding to the Imagine Cup World Championship in Seattle in May.
12 Teams were selected for the Imagine Cup EMEA Regional Finals in Amsterdam, Only one would proceed to the World Championship. The competition was extremely strong. No one team was bad. But nevertheless despite many setbacks, we managed to push through, and reign champion.
The days leading up to the competition were not easy. We had to toil day and night, barely getting any sleep, to ensure our application was ready for the big day. The application itself was only one side of the equation however, our presentation was equally, or I'd say even more important than the actual application.
It was Sunday, March 17th when disaster struck. Our main development machine, and only Macbook developed a power fault, and refused to turn on. It was 9:00PM, and most computer places were closed. We scoured Amsterdam high and low, searching for a repair center that was still open. Our search soon led us into a dim basement that reeked of smoke. Were we about to get murdered?
Well obviously, we're still alive. The owner of the basement "Repair Shop", a Polish gentleman named Darius, displayed an alarming lack of knowledge about the functionality of newer MacBooks. In addition, his violent dissassembly of our MacBook didn't to much to instill confidence. But despite all odds, he managed to work his magic, and several hours (and YouTube Tutorials) later, we were walking out of the basement, alive, and with a functioning MacBook. It's amazing when you think about it, without the help of this man, we would have never have won this competition.
“It was an amazing experience, I'd say the best experience of my life” - Choon Kiat
We had a great time at the Imagine Cup, and met many great people, some of which have now become friends for life. This dosen't mean the hard work is over though, we shall continue to improve our product, readying it for the even harsher competition that we would face in Seattle. Hopefully, we'll bring back that trophy.
